WWR of the MONTH: STEPHANIE

What is your name?
Stephanie Cade
How long have you been a member of WWR?
I attended a couple runs in summer 2021 but have really only been going consistently (thanks to TWERC!) since November 2022.

Since joining the group, have you grown in any ways? If so, what are they?
Joining WWR has helped me slow down on easy runs and listen to my body. It’s also encouraged me to prioritize fun experiences with others rather than always having to optimize every workout.

What is your most cherished running memory/ experience?
Wow this is hard! Finishing my first marathon in 2013 (the Arizona Rock n Roll). My friends were stationed throughout the course with signs for me and my parents and grandma were waiting at the finish line!

What is your favorite trail to run on?
Weatherford Trail in Flagstaff. Unsure of conditions after last year’s fire/flooding though

Where do you want to explore on your feet?
I’m a sucker for anywhere with pines, aspens, mountains…alpine environments

What do you do for a career?
I’m a Medical Laboratory Scientist. We are the nerds in the hospital basement running your lab tests.

What does running mean to you/do for you?
I was not a naturally athletic kid. For me, running was the first sport I saw improvement in proportionate to my effort, and it gave me confidence to try other athletic things as I got older.

Why do you like being a part of WWR?
I love meeting other ladies who like to challenge themselves and explore beautiful places

What is your best WWR related memory/moment?
I loved running Mt. Ord with you strong ladies!

Are you working towards any races or goals currently? If so, what are they?! (they don't have to be running specific)
Flagstaff Sky Peaks 50 miler

What is your favorite intra-run fuel?
I go through phases! Right now it’s water mixed with sugar and LMNT packets for electrolytes and flavor

What is your favorite post-run treat?
I love a wrap from Salad and Go and their cucumber mint lemonade

If you run with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?  (And where would you run with them?)
Lady Gaga, because I love her music, and I want to see what she would wear. I hope she’d style me too! Maybe the Dolomites since she’s Italian?

What causes or organizations are you passionate about?
Animals and parks! I donate to ASPCA, WWF and NPF

What is one thing you want to say to anyone who is just starting out in their running journey or is nervous to join a group?
Just go! It is really hard to do something for the first time, but everyone is so welcoming at WWR
